Once we arrive, my crew handles the unloading and placement of every box/item and make sure your large furniture is reassembled correctly to help you settle into your new home faster.
How do you determine the cost of a local residential move?
When I started JHUM I made a promise to never allow hidden fees or dishonesty of any kind. We value being a company who you can trust. That being said, transparency is key to how I run my business. We base our quotes on the volume of items, the distance between your locations, and any specialized services you need, like packing or handling high-value items. I offer free virtual estimates or photo-based quotes, and in-person estimates free for any home within within 20 miles of our office to make sure our quotes are as accurate as possible. Your transparency with us is, as well, is vital. With any inventory list or walk-through it is important that you do not leave anything out. There may be certain things that seem small to you, but in the moving world they may cause significant set-backs. The information you provide to use is how we create your estimate and determine the material and truck size needed to perform your move successfully from start to finish. So, please, be sure to be thorough and do your best to provide adequate notice for any changes.
How far in advance should I schedule my local move?
To secure your preferred date, I recommend reaching out two or four weeks in advance, especially during the busy summer season. However, a local movers based right here in the Triangle, we often have the flexibility to handle last-minute requests in Knightdale, Cary, Apex, and the entire Triangle region. If you're in a pinch, give us a call - we'll always do our best to fit you into the schedule.
Are your movers trained and insured?
Absolutely! I have extremely high standards for our moving staff and their training. Every crew member is professionally trained and we are fully insured. There are phases of employment with JHUM, and anyone in the training phase will be paired with a crew leader on each move along with a skilled team member so that no move is being performed by a team of novices. To receive 'crew leader status' takes years of continuous success and dedication to each move they attend. Once they have displayed a high level of moving knowledge they will then slowly begin training with a current crew leader to become one themselves. If they do get through this rigorous screening process, they will branch out on their first move as a crew lead. Our current crew leaders have 10+ years of experience in the moving industry.
Can I pack my own belongings?
You most certainly can pack your own belongings. However, keep in mind that this also means you are responsible for the safety of the contents. Please make sure everything packed in boxes is adequately secured with packing paper or news paper. I have also found that when packing your kitchen you can use dish rags to fill in empty spots between dishes and box walls to keep them in place.
What if I need to change my moving date?
That is perfectly fine. I know that moving timelines - especially with real estate closings - can shift at the last minute. As soon as you become aware of a change, please let us know so that we can get it sorted out together. We will do our best to accommodate your new schedule based on our current availability. This is not the 'huge issue' you may initially feel that it is, and you can reach me directly at almost anytime. I am available by calling our office line (919-694-6652) Monday through Saturday from 8:00 AM to 11:00 PM and on Sundays from 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM so that our clients can receive support late in the evening or first thing in the morning.
Do you provide special handling for fragile items?
Absolutely, we have specialized care for an array of fragile items. We don't just move boxes; we move your history and your heirlooms. We prefer to identify these high-value pieces in our initial consultation with you to be sure we bring the needed materials and gear to ensure safe transport. This is where your transparency comes in. Please let us know as soon as possible of any items you have a particular concern about or items you think may be of concern to us so that we can avoid any last-minute issues.
